I'd assume india ink is pretty similar stuff to sumi. In fact, before the 90s, India ink was the main black ink used by professional tattooists, until better, tattoo-specific black inks were developed, which make blacker blacks and fade less/better. When you see old, pre-90s tatts where the blacks fade that greenish colour- that's india ink.
